Requirements
Minimum Requirements
The Simudyne SDK is a set of libraries in Java/Scala that will require the following to run:
- Java JDK 25 (Adoptium Temurin recommended)
- Maven
- IDE (recommend IntelliJ)
Getting Access
A free 7-day trial is available for the Simudyne SDK and can be accessed via the AWS Marketplace. More info in the sections below.
This AWS instance comes complete with the Simudyne SDK installed, license and access token set up, and a sample project so that you can immediately begin development. Pricing information and AMI options are available below:
Note that for purchases via AWS Marketplace, a single additional developer license can be provided for working locally, please contact support@simudyne.com to receive this after purchasing.
Purchasing via Simudyne
To purchase directly, please contact support@simudyne.com for a quote.
Downloading Options
If you have purchased an AMI via AWS, the Simudyne SDK will come preinstalled and is ready for development.
If you have purchased the SDK directly you will need to download the required SDK libraries via one of the two methods:
- Maven (recommended): Add the Simudyne repository and your credentials to your
settings.xml, then declare the SDK dependencies in yourpom.xml. A firewall can block authentication and fetching of Maven libraries — check your firewall settings if Maven is being blocked. - Offline Installer: If your security restrictions will not allow Maven to reach the internet, an offline installer is available. Contact support@simudyne.com for access.
Windows
JDK 25
Download and install Adoptium Temurin JDK 25 from adoptium.net. Select the JDK package for Windows x64.
The JDK 25 installation path is set by the installer and can be noted from there.
Maven
- Visit the Maven repository and download the latest release.
- Extract the file and save it in the
C:\Program Filesdirectory. - Right click on the Windows button, in the lower left corner of the screen, and open "Settings".
- In the search field, search for and select "Edit the system environment variables".
- On the "Advanced" tab, click "Environment Variables".
- In "System Variables", add the following variables if they do not exist. Otherwise, edit them accordingly.
| Name | Value |
|---|---|
| JAVA_HOME | JDK 25 installation path |
| M2_HOME | C:\Program Files\apache-maven-x.x.x |
| MAVEN_HOME | C:\Program Files\apache-maven-x.x.x |
| PATH | Add "%M2_HOME%\bin" to existing variable |
To add the Maven home location to the PATH system variable:
- Select the PATH system variable.
- Underneath the list of system variables, click "Edit".
- In the dialog that appears, click "New."
- Enter "%M2_HOME%\bin" into the next empty PATH variable row.
- Hit "Enter" to save the value.
Finally, check whether the install was successful by running the following command.
mvn -v
If it returns Apache Maven X.X.X, the install was successful.
JVM Module Flags (Runtime — Spark users)
If your model uses Spark for distributed computation, JDK 25 requires certain JVM module-access flags. These are applied to the JVM that runs your simulation, not to the Maven build itself. Add the following to your MAVEN_OPTS environment variable or to the JVM args of your run configuration:
--add-opens=java.base/java.lang=ALL-UNNAMED
--add-opens=java.base/java.lang.invoke=ALL-UNNAMED
--add-opens=java.base/java.lang.reflect=ALL-UNNAMED
--add-opens=java.base/java.io=ALL-UNNAMED
--add-opens=java.base/java.net=ALL-UNNAMED
--add-opens=java.base/java.nio=ALL-UNNAMED
--add-opens=java.base/java.util=ALL-UNNAMED
--add-opens=java.base/java.util.concurrent=ALL-UNNAMED
--add-opens=java.base/java.util.concurrent.atomic=ALL-UNNAMED
--add-opens=java.base/sun.nio.ch=ALL-UNNAMED
--add-opens=java.base/sun.nio.cs=ALL-UNNAMED
--add-opens=java.base/sun.security.action=ALL-UNNAMED
--add-opens=java.base/sun.util.calendar=ALL-UNNAMED
--sun-misc-unsafe-memory-access=allow
--enable-native-access=ALL-UNNAMED
Hadoop winutils (Data export on Windows)
If your model uses data export features (Parquet, ORC, CSV, JSON output), Spark requires the Hadoop native libraries on Windows. Download the winutils package:
https://simudynecontent.blob.core.windows.net/$web/hadoop-winutils-3.5.0.zip
Extract to a location such as C:\hadoop, then set the environment variable:
| Name | Value |
|---|---|
| HADOOP_HOME | C:\hadoop (or wherever you extracted the archive) |
| PATH | Add "%HADOOP_HOME%\bin" to existing variable |
IDE
Simudyne recommends using IntelliJ IDEA. This IDE also manages builds, so it is not necessary to install a separate build tool, however it is recommended that the Maven build tool be installed.
Mac OS
JDK 25
Run the following command in a terminal to check whether JDK 25 is already installed.
java -version
If the command returns a version number starting with 25, the system already has the proper JDK. Otherwise, download and install Adoptium Temurin JDK 25 from adoptium.net.
Alternatively, install via Homebrew:
brew install --cask temurin@25
Set JAVA_HOME in your shell profile (.zshrc or .bash_profile):
export JAVA_HOME=$(/usr/libexec/java_home -v 25)
Maven
Make sure Homebrew is installed, then run:
brew install maven
IDE

Linux
JDK 25
Install Adoptium Temurin JDK 25. On Ubuntu/Debian:
wget -qO - https://packages.adoptium.net/artifactory/api/gpg/key/public | sudo apt-key add -
echo "deb https://packages.adoptium.net/artifactory/deb $(awk -F= '/^VERSION_CODENAME/{print$2}' /etc/os-release) main" \
| sudo tee /etc/apt/sources.list.d/adoptium.list
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install temurin-25-jdk
Verify:
java -version
Maven
$ apt-cache search maven
$ sudo apt-get install maven
IDE
